Competitor coupons are not something I had considered when I started couponing. However, it has become one of the most useful tricks of the trade.
In order to know what a store considers to be a competitor, a quick stop to the customer service desk will help.
My local Publix considers Target to be a competitor. Target regularly has coupons in its weekly ad. They usually involve health, beauty, baby, or food.
Last week’s Target ad had a food coupon for $10 off a purchase of $50.

Preparing for Thanksgiving and general stocking of my
household, I shopped twice using this Target coupon. Both times, I put this coupon on top of the stack of coupons to ensure the total was $50 to benefit from this promotion. The Publix cashier took $10 off the total and then scanned the rest of my coupons.
The first trip, I spent $26 and used a Publix gift card (worth $5.23) I had from a previous transaction to bring my out of pocket down to $21.16. saved $63 and Then I claimed $1.15 in rebates using ibotta, SavingStar, and mobisave. This shopping trip included Spice Islands spices, Chinet cups, and a 21 pound turkey!

The second trip, I spent $34, saved $83, and got back $2.55 in rebates using ibotta and SavingStar. This trip was mainly dairy: yogurt, RondelĂ© cheese, and Barilla Pronto pasta on sale for 50¢ each!
